Biographies

Bernard Sabrier, Chairman of Unigestion

Bernard Sabrier is Chairman of Unigestion and CEO of Unigestion Asia Pte Ltd. Mr. Sabrier took control of Unigestion in 1976 and has successfully built the company into a recognised institutional asset manager. Mr Sabrier started his career in finance by completing a training programme at Paribas in Geneva from 1972 to 1974. He then worked at Renault Finance from 1975 to 1976 where he focused on bond and foreign currency investments. Mr. Sabrier has led a number of successful acquisitions and disposals in the financial sector including, most notably, controlling positions in Switzerland in the BSI Banca della Svizzera Italiana and Banque Unigestion, as well as a significant minority position in Banque OBC, Paris. He has acted as Director on the Boards of several large European companies, and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of Marshall Wace UK; a Director at Nestlé Capital Management Ltd. UK; a member of the Investment Committee of the “Université Pierre et Marie Curie” Partnership Foundation. He is also the Founder and President of Children Action, a charitable foundation for disadvantaged children throughout the world.

Patrick Fenal, Deputy Chairman of Unigestion

Patrick Fenal is the Deputy Chairman of Unigestion. He also heads Unigestion's Family Investment Office. He joined Unigestion in 1978. Patrick started his career in wealth management at Credit Suisse, before working in Iran for a retail branch of ABN Amro. After joining a brokerage firm in the US, he moved back to Switzerland to join Unigestion as a bond manager and contributed to the development of the "horizon yields" technique from 1982. In 1986, he led Unigestion's foray into Hedge Funds, building a team, structuring research and developing an investment process that makes Unigestion one of the leading institutional fund of hedge funds managers. Before his appointment as Deputy Chairman of the Unigestion group in 2011, Patrick was the Chief Executive Officer of Unigestion SA from 1996 to 2010. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the EDHEC Risk and Asset Management Research Centre and in 2008 contributed to the creation of AIMA's Guide to Sound Practices for Funds of Hedge Funds, as Chairman of the Steering Committee. Patrick studied Economics at the University of Geneva.

Clive Bannister, Independent Director

Independent Director of Unigestion Holding SA. Mr. Clive Bannister is currently CEO of the Phoenix Group. Mr. Bannister served as a member of the Group Management Board of Insurance and Asset Management at HSBC Holdings Plc from 2006 until 2010. Prior to this, Mr. Bannister was appointed Chief Executive of HSBC Group Private Banking in 1998. He became Group General Manager and CEO of HSBC Group Private Banking in July 2001. Between 1996 and 1998, Mr. Bannister was Head of Investment Banking and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Securities Inc. in New York. From 1994 to 1996, Mr. Bannister was Director and Head of Planning and Strategy, HSBC Investment Bank Holdings plc. Before joining HSBC in 1994, Mr. Bannister was a Partner in the financial consulting practice of Booz Allen & Hamilton. Mr. Bannister has an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Exeter College, Oxford University.

Jean-Pierre Jacquemoud, Independent Director

Independent Director of Unigestion Holding SA. Mr. Jean-Pierre Jacquemoud is Partner of Jacquemoud & Stanislas, a law firm in Geneva. Mr. Jacquemoud also acts as Director on the board of several other companies, amongst others: Aéroport International de Genève, Banque Audi (Suisse) SA, Branson Ultrasonic SA, Cofis Holding SA, Conforama, FNAC (Suisse) SA, Sanofi-Aventis (Suisse) SA, Socinvest Finance SA, Total Oil Trading SA, Mr. Jacquemoud has a Master of Comparative Jurisprudence obtained at the University of Texas (Austin Law School) and was admitted to the bar in New-York.

Marina de Planta, Independent Director

Independent Director of Unigestion Holding SA. Mrs. Marina de Planta is Partner of Ducrest & Heggli Avocats LLC, a law firm in Geneva where she specialises in international tax law, restructuring and advises on Family Offices. Mrs. de Planta previously worked in another law firm in Geneva and for Ernst & Young in Geneva, Hong Kong and Zurich. Mrs. de Planta is also a board member of Trufiswiss SA. She is a graduate in Economics from the University of Geneva and holds a certified tax expert diploma from l'Ecole de la Chambre fiducaire of Zurich.

Jean-Pierre Steiner, Independent Director

Independent Director of Unigestion Holding SA. Mr. Jean-Pierre Steiner is a former Corporate Pension Director at Nestlé and CEO of Nestlé Capital Advisers SA. Mr. Steiner is also a Board member of Vaudoise Assurance and Nestlé Capital Advisers. Mr. Steiner has a Master of Science from the University of Lausanne and is a certified Swiss pension expert.

Martin Wenk, Independent Director

Independent Director of Unigestion Holding SA. Mr. Martin Wenk is a member of the executive Board and Chief Investment Officer of the Baloise group. Mr Wenk is also Chairman of the Board of Directors at Baloise Asset Management Schweiz AG and Baloise Asset Management International AG, Basel. Additionally, Mr. Wenk is Director of Baloise Bank SOBA, Baloise Fund Invest (SICAV) and Baloise Life (Liechstenstein) SA. Mr. Wenk is a Graduate in Law from the University of Basel.

Paul Wilson, Independent Director

Independent Director of Unigestion Holding SA. Mr. Paul Wilson has been with Bain & Company, London, since 1996, acting as Director and Partner/Leader of the Financial Services Practice. He moved to a diversified set of business in 2005 while remaining a Senior Advisor at Bain & Co. Mr. Wilson is the Chairman of Kiln Underwriting Ltd and Action Against Hunger and a board member of R.J. Kiln and Abbey Protection Plc. He holds an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.

Fiona Frick, Chief Executive Officer

Fiona Frick is the Chief Executive Officer of Unigestion. She started her career at Unigestion in 1990, initially working as an analyst specialised in traditional asset classes, and subsequently holding various positions, including investment analyst and bond manager. In 1995, at the request of Unigestion's CEO, she led the development of the company's equity activity, based on the Minimum Variance anomaly. This concept integrates an investment management process based on quantitative and qualitative analysis. As part of this project, she set up and headed a dedicated Minimum Variance team. As Head of the Minimum Variance team, she was responsible for the development of the strategy as well as the portfolio construction process. She remains involved in the Minimum Variance approach as Chairman of the strategy's Investment & Research Committee. Fiona holds a Master in Business Administration from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion (I.S.G.) in Paris and graduated with a degree in Literature and Philosophy from the University of Dijon. She has also completed a number of executive education programs at the IMD Business School in Lausanne.

Régis Martin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer

Régis Martin is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Unigestion. He has also been Chief Financial Officer of the Group since 1999. Régis is also responsible for various cross-department functions, including Legal, HR and Administration. He joined Unigestion in 1994. Régis previously worked as corporate auditor with KPMG for three years. He holds a Master in Science from the University of Lausanne and has also completed a number of executive education programs at the London Business School and at the IMD Business School in Lausanne.

Dr. Hanspeter Bader, Managing Director

Dr. Hanspeter Bader, Managing Director, is the Head of the Private Equity team, a member of the Private Equity Investment Committee and a member of the Unigestion Executive Committee. He joined Unigestion in 1999. Hanspeter previously spent 10 years with UBS in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, specifically focused on private equity and leveraged finance. During this time he became Finance Director of UBS's European private equity business. Hanspeter has both a Master's degree and a PhD in Finance & Economics from the University of St Gallen, Switzerland. His thesis "Private Equity as an Asset Class for Institutional Investors" has been published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He is also a CFA Charterholder.

Jean-François Hirschel, Managing Director

Jean-François Hirschel, Managing Director, is Head of Marketing and a member of the Unigestion Executive Committee. He joined Unigestion in 2007. Jean-François began his career in 1993 in the Performance Measurement and Client Reporting team of Paribas Asset Management (PAM). In 1997, he became Deputy Head of PAM's Middle Office, responsible for client service for US clients. In 1998, he joined Société Générale Asset Management (SGAM) as Head of the Performance Measurement and Client Reporting department and since 2000, he took additional responsibility of SGAM's Institutional Marketing team. In 2003, he became Director of the Marketing, Product Development and Reporting department, before becoming a member of SGAM's Executive Committee in 2005. Jean- François Hirschel graduated in Computer Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (Lausanne) and spent a year internship at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, U.S.A.

Alexei Jourovski, Managing Director

Alexei Jourovski, Managing Director, is the Head of Equity and a member of the Unigestion Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Minimum Variance Investment & Research Committee. Since joining Unigestion in 2001, Alexei has been responsible for the day-to-day management of Unigestion's equity funds. With a team of three portfolio managers and two analysts, his main tasks include portfolio construction, investment monitoring and quantitative research. Alexei has a degree in Economics from the University of Geneva.

Tom Leavitt, Managing Director

Tom Leavitt, CFA, Managing Director, is the Head of Institutional Clients and a member of the Unigestion Executive Committee. He joined Unigestion in 2010. Tom was previously Global Head of Institutional Clients and a member of the Executive Committee for Fortis Investments. Prior to the ABN AMRO merger with Fortis Investments in 2008, he was President and Chief Executive Officer for the North American operation of ABN AMRO Asset Management. In this role he oversaw the Chicago and Canadian affiliates. He was a board member of Montag & Caldwell, Inc., a wholly owned affiliate, as well as Veredus Asset Management LLC and River Road Asset Management LLC, both partially owned affiliates of ABN AMRO Asset Management Holdings, Inc. Prior to joining ABN AMRO Asset Management, Tom held senior positions at Standard & Poor's, Citigroup Asset Management, Fidelity Management Trust Company and United Asset Management. Tom served as a Director of the CFA Society of Chicago and has over 25 years of experience in the asset management and financial services marketplace. He earned a B.S. degree in mathematics and economics from the University of Vermont and is a CFA charterholder.

Anthony Payot, Managing Director

Anthony Payot, Managing Director, is the Head of IT & Logistics and a member of the Unigestion Executive Committee. He joined Unigestion in 1999. Anthony previously spent 4 years at Credit Suisse. He holds a Bachelor's degree in IT and Business Administration from the Schultz School in Geneva.

Nicolas Rousselet, Managing Director

Nicolas Rousselet, Managing Director, is Head of the Hedge Funds team and a member of the Unigestion Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Hedge Funds Investment Committee. He joined Unigestion in 2008 as a Strategy Manager, initially responsible for Arbitrage and Credit strategies, then also covering Equity Hedge strategies. Nicolas has been a member of the Hedge Funds Investment Committee since 2008. He began his career in 1999 at Fortis Investment Management, where he became portfolio manager of arbitrage and CTA funds of funds in 2001. In 2002, he joined Atlas Capital Limited in London, as head of the arbitrage strategies and became Director and head of research in 2006. Nicolas Rousselet holds a master with distinction in Mathematics from Paris XI University and is a certified statistician from Paris VI University.

Pierre Bernier, Executive Director

Pierre Bernier, Executive Director, is Head of Human Resources. He joined Unigestion in 2008. Prior to that, Pierre worked at Michael Page International where he was responsible for the banking division of the Luxembourg office; previously he was in charge of the Asset Management practice for the Geneva office. Pierre holds a dual Bachelor's degree in Business and Administration jointly run by ESC-EI Montpellier, France and the University of Leicester, UK.

Mathieu Chacun, Director

Mathieu Chacun, Director, is Chief Risk Officer and member of the Unigestion Risk Committee. He Joined Unigestion in 2011. Mathieu began his career in 1987 as an auditor at Deloitte. He then held several positions in internal audit and finance in the shipping industry before joining AXA Investment Managers in 1997 as Head of Group Financial Control. In 2001 he transferred to the AXA Rosenberg Group in the United States as Group Controller. In 2003 he was appointed Director of Audit and Controls and, from 2006, as Group Director of Risk Management, he took responsibility for the creation and development of the risk management function. Mathieu holds a Master Degree in Management from the University of Paris Dauphine, France

Christopher Hill, Executive Director

Christopher Hill is an Executive Director of Unigestion (Guernsey) Limited. He joined Unigestion in 2005. Prior to that, he worked for eight years as Managing Director of Guernsey International Fund Managers Limited, which was subsequently sold to Northern Trust. Christopher is also director of a number of management companies and investment funds, including Guernsey-based hedge fund products and London listed funds. He has more than thirty-five years' experience in the field of offshore banking and fund administration. He is Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (now called the Institute of Financial Services).

Alanh Husson, Director

Alanh Husson, Director, is Chief Project Officer. He joined Unigestion in 2009. Alanh started his career in 2002 as Back Officer at CDC-IXIS Capital Market. He then moved to a consultancy role at Altran SI in 2004, with a focus on Corporate and Investment Banking before taking on another consultancy role at 3S Consulting with a focus on the asset management industry. During that time, he worked on Index and Structured Investment lines at BNP Paribas Asset Management. In 2007, Alanh joined CSC Consulting as a manager where he was specialised in Financial Services (Corporate and Investment Banking & Asset Management), working for the Global Equity Derivatives division of Société Générale Corporate and Investment Banking. Alanh graduated in finance from the Institut Supérieur de Commerce in Paris and holds a degree in European Business Management from the Athlone Institute of Technology in Ireland.

Laurence Leblond, Director

Laurence Leblond, CAIA, Director, is Head of Operations. She joined Unigestion in 2010. Prior to that, Laurence started her career in 1996 at Barep Asset Management where she created the Risk and Middle Office department for Hedge Funds and Money Market Products. She then moved to Systeia Capital Management in 2001 as Head of Operations in charge of the Risk, Middle Office and Reporting. In 2008, she joined Diapason Commodities Management as Head of Risk and Reporting. Laurence initially joined Unigestion as Head of Operations within the Hedge Funds team. She became Head of the Operations team at its creation in late 2011. Laurence holds a BA in European Business Administration from the London University and qualified from the Reims Business Management School.

Robin Maggi, Senior Vice President

Robin Maggi, Senior Vice President, is Chief Operating Officer for the New York Office. She joined Unigestion in 2005. Prior to that, Robin started her career with LCJ Industries Inc. in 1983, where she progressed to the role of Vice President, Operations Manager. In 2000, she joined Susan Dell Inc., where she held the position of Office and Event Manager. Robin holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University.

Philippe Moreau, Senior Vice President

Philippe Moreau, Senior Vice President, is Compliance Officer and a member of the Unigestion Risk Committee. He joined Unigestion in 2010. Philippe began his career in 1998 as an auditor at Ernst & Young in Luxembourg. He then became a Senior Manager in the Ernst & Young Asset Management practice, where his primary responsibility was to lead and develop audit and related services delivered to an international asset management clientele. Philippe Moreau holds a Business School Master from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Lille, France.

Francesco Pastorini, Director

Francesco Pastorini, Director, is Head of Legal. He joined Unigestion in 2007. Prior to that, Francesco worked for three years for a number of law offices. In 2001, he joined Pictet Funds S.A where he was notably in charge of the set up and the distribution of the funds of the Pictet group. He holds a Master in Law from the University of Geneva and also passed the bar exam to become attorney.

Gérard Pfauwadel, Chairman

Gérard Pfauwadel is the Chairman of Unigestion Asset Management (France) SA and a member of Unigestion's Private Equity Investment Committee. He joined Unigestion in 2004. Gérard began his career in 1976 at the French Treasury Department where he became Chief of the Cabinet of the permanent Under Secretary of the Treasury (Mr. Michel Camdessus) in 1982, General Secretary of the CIRI (Industrial Restructuring) in 1984 and Deputy Under Secretary of the French Treasury in charge of financial markets in 1986. He was Chairman of MATIF SA from 1988 to 1997 and became Chairman of the Banque Centrale de Compensation, B.C.C (Commodities Futures Clearing House) in January 1990. He worked at the AGF-ALLIANZ group as Chairman of Sagitrans and Safitrans (Comptoir des Entrepreneur's debt defeasance structure – 1998-1999), CEO of Mondial Assistance Group (2000-2001) and Managing Director of AGF and member of the Executive Board, responsible for non-life insurance (2001-2003). Gérard Pfauwadel is a graduate Engineer of the Ecole Polytechnique and a former student of the Ecole Nationale d'Administration.

Daniel Ritz, Director

Daniel Ritz, CFA, Director, is a member of the Institutional Clients team with responsibility for the Swiss-German region. He joined Unigestion in 2011. Daniel began his career in 1991 as assistant in the asset management department of UBS in Zurich. In 1993, he became Sales and Relationship Manager for Swiss institutional clients. In 1998, he joined Bank Leu as Head of Asset Management before becoming Head of Institutional Clients in 2003, a position he kept after Clariden Leu was formed. Daniel graduated in Economics from the University of St. Gallen. He also completed an MBA at the University of Rochester.

Magdalena Rodriguez-Cotman, Executive Director

Magdalena Rodriguez-Cotman, Executive Director, is a Portfolio Manager within the Family Investment Office. She joined Unigestion in 2001. Magdalena started her career at QBE Insurance London, as part of their investment team and subsequently joined JP Morgan's Futures and Options Client Services team. Prior to joining Unigestion, she worked for the Private Wealth Management team at Morgan Stanley, still in London, where she was responsible for Spanish and French high net worth individuals, foundations and small financial institutions. Magdalena holds an Honours degree in European Business jointly run by the University of Hull and the Chamber of Commerce in Madrid.

Annette Voss, Director

Annette Voss, Director, is Chief Operating Officer and Compliance Officer for Unigestion (UK) Limited, in charge of Compliance and Money Laundering Reporting. She joined Unigestion in 2000. Prior to that, she started her career in 1987 with a back office role at S.G. Warburg and moved, in 1989, to a Eurobond sales role with Société Générale Strauss Turnbull. Later in 1989, she moved to Hong Kong to co-found a financial advisory firm, Collingwood Investments, which was sold to Old Mutual in 1995. Back in the UK, after some freelance consulting work, she worked as an IT and Operations Manager for a financial head hunting firm in the City for 2.5 years.
