Activity Presentation

Unigestion is a privately owned asset management company based in Geneva with offices in London, Paris, New York and Guernsey and approximately €8 billion total assets under management as at 30 September 2007. We focus exclusively on the management of innovative, highly active strategies spanning the private and public capital markets, and seek to deliver consistently superior risk-adjusted returns within the context of each client’s long-term asset allocation. Unigestion’s platform of investment services offers 4 specialist strategies designed to produce superior risk-adjusted returns: Long-only Equity products, Hedge Funds of Funds, Private Equity Funds of Funds, and Multi-Assets Management.

The Long-only Equity activity manages today around €2.9 Billion. The investment approach is highly active and systematic, and uses a quantitative process. The investment philosophy aims at minimizing future volatility of portfolios. The activity has grown very fast in the last year as main flow of clients arrived in 2004-2005. 100% of clientele is European. Main markets are France, Germany, Scandinavia and Switzerland, Luxembourg. All assets are with institutional investors. The team includes 14 dedicated persons and benefits also from the support the shared operational platform: marketing, IT, Compliance etc …

Job Description

The person we are looking for will be working within the equity business development team. This team is today comprised of 1 person and aims to be 3 persons as of the end of 08.


  • Establishing a business development program for different countries or regions to maximise sales opportunities. The focus is mainly Europe with an emphasis on Germany, France, Scandinavia and Switzerland. The region developed will be adapted and refined to the current know-how of the candidate hired.
  • Identifying, screening and arranging approaches to potential new clients. The aim of the business development team is to diversify existing clients and vintage year of client’s arrivals. The client targets are institutional clients with a long-term view favouring pension funds and insurance companies.
  • Present the equity activity and management technique to potential clients and follow up with these prospects by regularly updating them on products performances.
  • Increase assets under management of the long-only equity activity on the basis of the clients approached. The quality and the profitability of the new clients brought in will be taking into account as well as amount placed.
  • The business team works hand in hand with the client relationship team which follows existing clients and prepares all ad-hoc products presentation.
  • Participating to discussion on the structuring and definition of new quantitative equity products.
  • Find and accelerate seeding money when launching new products.
  • Keep one-self aware of the development of the region followed in terms of juridical evolution, client’s demand and competition.

Languages

Fluent/Bilingual in English, German would be a plus

Skills requirements

  • The person will be based in Geneva.
  • 3 to 5 year experience in sales and business development.
  • In depth knowledge of the institutional market in Europe, mainly insurance companies, pension funds and multi-managers.
  • Possess already a network of clientele that fits with our existing clientele described above.
  • Capacity to market and convince senior and increasingly technical investors through a thorough understanding our equity products and client’s needs.
  • Preference for a candidate having already worked in the sales of equity products.
  • University degree in Finance. The candidate should be fluent with financial concepts such as optimization, volatility, etc.
